Taking Care of the Family Plot
During the dog days of summer, which in our area tend to be very dry, you have to water the truffle plants so they can maintain the degree of moisture required for their proper ripening, since this period is critical in regards to the productivity and size of the truffles – if they don’t get enough water, the crop will be scarce and more importantly, the specimens small.
Irrigation ducts must be installed along the plot with great care and precision, which is the very reason why we had all hands on deck this year. From the youngest members of the Trufazero family to the most seasoned veterans, we all shared a day of work at the farm together where our children learned how important it is to care for each stage of the truffles’ development, while us older folks enjoyed watching their eagerness to learn. It was a lovely experience.
